New Apple iPhone 5: Free MobileMe & No iPhone Mini

Upcoming Apple iPhone 5 almost complete, Free MobileMe & No iPhone Mini – from NY TIMES. Apple’s iPhone is without a doubt one of the (if not the single) most talked about smartphones on the market. This level of hype was pushed up a couple notches when Verizon launched their own version of the iPhone 4, but still left us wondering what’s next.

If you’ve been paying attention you’ll probably know that rumors have been circulating regarding Apple launching a new, downsized iPhone. According to these rumors, this iPhone would be cheaper than the iPhone 4 but would retain many of the same features thus appealing to those looking to get down on iOS but not break the bank. Well, if you were hoping for such an iPhone you may be discouraged to hear that the New York Times have gotten an anonymous tip saying Apple is not developing a smaller iPhone. What they did say however is that Apple is currently pondering the idea of a cheaper iPhone and are almost done with the next generation iPhone in addition to making MobileMe free.

Considering this is an anonymous source we cannot yet confirm its validity so we’ll have to keep you posted as more news is made known.

AT&T Apple iPhone 4 USA: How to get a discount?

Apple iPhone 4: Many AT&T Subscribers Qualify for Discounts, Some Don’t. Steve Jobs says the Apple iPhone 4 will start at $200, but the only ones who will get this highly anticipated smartphone for that price are new AT&T subscribers, or those who have earned a subsidy from the carrier. For everyone else, the price is much higher. This leaves many AT&T customers asking, do I qualify for a discount?

Customers who haven’t bought a subsidized phone in two years (24 months) qualify for discounted prices on the iPhone 4. Those who think they might be close can check AT&T’s iPhone website or dial *639#.

AT&T is making a special exception for current iPhone owners: anyone who would be eligible for an upgrade at any time before the end of this year can get their subsidy now. This is only for those who already have an iPhone.

People who bought an iPhone 3GS after May 7 will have the option of exchanging it for an equivalently priced iPhone 4 at no charge. They can also upgrade to the version with more storage by paying the price difference.

Subsidies Make a Difference
With a subsidy and a two-year contract, the iPhone 4 with 16 GB of storage will cost $200 and one with 32 GB will go for $300.

Those who don’t qualify for a subsidy but are willing to renew their two-year contract will have to pay $400 and $500 for these two models.

Getting any of these prices requires renewing the two-year contract. Those who do not want to will have to pay full prices: $600 or $700.

New Data Plans
AT&T recently began phasing out its $30 unlimited data plan, and new customers can not sign up for it. However, those who already have this plan can keep it.

This includes those who are upgrading to an iPhone 4 — customers do not have to give up their unlimited service plan when they use their subsidy to buy a smartphone.

However, they have to give it up if they want to use one of the iPhone 4′s new features: tethering. Enabling this feature requires signing up for AT&T’s DataPro plan, which provides 2 GB of data transfers for $25 a month.

Overview of the Apple iPhone 4
Apple’s recently-announced fourth-generation smartphone is going to be a significant upgrade from the current one, starting with its 3.5-inch, 640 x 960 touchscreen, a much higher resolution than any previous iPhone has offered.

It’s going to have a new slimmer design and run iOS 4.0, the latest version of Apple’s operating system, on a 1 GHz Apple A4 processor. This will be the first version of Apple’s mobile OS with support for multitasking.

The iPhone 4 will have a 5 megapixel rear-facing camera with a flash and support for recording 720p video at 30 frames per second. In addition, it’s going to include a small front-facing camera for video chatting with an app called FaceTime.

The Apple iPhone 4 will be available from AT&T on June 24.
